Auto Painting & Refinishing in Highland Park With Exact Color Matching
European colors are often layered, with metallic flake, pearl mid-coats and tinted clears. Matching them demands measurement, test cards and patience before a single panel is sprayed.
Talk with our paint team at (000) 000-0000Color Is a Science and a Discipline
A single color name can hide many variants, because makers adjust tints between plants and production years. That is why we never rely on the paint code alone. A spectrophotometer reads your car's actual finish, the formula is adjusted to suit, and a test card is sprayed and compared beside the car in daylight and under booth lamps. Only when the card disappears against the panel do we begin. Color goes on inside a downdraft booth, its filtered airflow sweeping dust clear of the finish, and the clear coat is chosen to replicate the factory gloss and texture. The result should look as though the car never left the showroom, whether it is parked along Turtle Creek or under the lights of a restaurant on Lovers Lane.
The Components of a Proper Refinish
Each refinish draws on the following practices. The extent depends on how much of the car is being painted.
Digital color reading
A spectrophotometer measures the finish on an untouched panel bordering the repair. The reading accounts for fading and the variation between production batches.
Sprayed test cards
A sample of the mixed color is sprayed and compared beside the car in more than one light. Adjustments continue until the card cannot be distinguished.
Thorough surface preparation
Panels are cleaned, sanded and primed to create a sound, even foundation. Poor preparation is the root of most paint failures, so it is never rushed.
Precise masking
Glass, trim, rubber seals and adjacent panels are masked with care or removed entirely. Clean edges and no overspray are part of the standard.
Ceiling-to-floor airflow while spraying
Air moves from ceiling to floor, drawing airborne particles down and out before they can settle in fresh color. Controlled temperature and airflow help each coat lay down evenly.
Multi-stage color handling
Tri-coat and pearl finishes are applied in the maker's layer order with consistent film thickness. Each layer influences how the final color reads.
Texture and gloss matching
Clear coat is applied and finished to match the factory orange-peel texture on the rest of the car. A panel that is too glossy stands out as surely as one that is too dull.
Nib removal and final polish
Any minor dust nibs are carefully removed and the surface polished to a uniform sheen. The car is inspected outdoors before it is released.
The Order of Work in the Paint Department
- 01
Color study and estimate
We examine the finish, take spectrophotometer readings and note any prior paint work. The estimate explains which panels will be painted and which will be blended. You know the scope before anything is sanded.
- 02
Preparation and spraying
Panels are repaired, primed and blocked, then masked and rolled into the booth. Color and clear are applied in controlled coats and cured. Each stage is checked before the next is applied.
- 03
Finishing and evaluation
Cured paint is inspected for texture, gloss and color under booth lamps and in natural light. Small imperfections are refined by hand. Together we then review the match from several angles.
Why Our Finishes Stand Up to Scrutiny
Measured color, not guesswork
Every match begins with a reading and a test card. That process handles even difficult pearls and metallics.
Factory-like texture
We replicate the original surface texture, not just the color. The panel blends in at any angle and in any light.
A clean, controlled environment
Our booth keeps dust and debris away from the finish. Masking and preparation receive the same attention as the spraying itself.
Color Worth Matching Exactly
A refinish should restore the car, not announce that it was repaired. A short phone conversation will help us understand your color and the scope of the work.
